Senior Showcase Proposal

6-8 total pieces will be selected for production

Expectations

Auditions:

  • All directors must attend the pre-audition meeting on August 22nd from 3:00-3:30 in room 301

  • Auditions will be held August 28th from 3:00-5:30

  • All directors must attend the auditions.

  • Any student enrolled in Musical Rep. may NOT be cast in the Senior Showcase.

  • Any student who is cast must have attended the audition - No pre-casting.

Rehearsals:

  • Monday-Fridays, August 29th-September 22nd (excluding September 1st, 4th, & 5th)

  • Each one-act must practice a minimum of 4 hours per week

  • Two 2-hour sessions or three 90-minute sessions is recommended.

  • If your play is not rehearsing enough it may be cancelled.

  • Each one-act must practice on school grounds.

Dress Rehearsals:

  • September 25th-27th, 3:00-6:00

  • All directors and cast members must attend all dress rehearsals.

  • This includes watching all other productions.

Performances:

  • September 28th, 29th, & 30th, Call 6:00 Curtain 7:00

  • All directors and cast members must attend strike following the final performance.

Requirements

  • Fill out this PROPOSAL FORM prior to Friday, August 18th. 

  • You must be a senior in good academic and behavioral standing to direct in this showcase

  • Pieces can be a one-act play, musical number, excerpt from a full-length play/musical, a short film, or a choreographed dance number.

  • Pieces can be original work or published material.

  • Cast cannot exceed 10 people (doublings are allowed)

  • Performance cannot exceed 15 minutes

  • Setting must occur in only ONE location

  • There will be no budget provided for your production

Resources

  • Below are some links to websites with a ton of 10 minute plays. You can search for plays based on genre and cast size/type. Some offer free downloads, some offer short samples, and some require payment.

  • Saturday Night Live sketches are perfect for one acts to produce in the senior showcase. Here is a link to some of the most popular sketches of all time. Keep in mind that you will need to write the dialogue in script format to give to your cast.
